The Year to Hear is a non-for-profit initiative by Radio
Active CR 90.4 MHz, Bangalore’s first community radio station. We have only one
intention – to gather stories and conversations from people belonging to
different backgrounds, different faith, different experiences and different
socio-economic status. Through this project, Radio Active hopes to collect
multifaceted stories from diverse communities and encourage listening amongst
individuals.
We are more than a billion in
population speaking over 400 languages, in almost 2000 dialects, following
eight different religions and observing over hundreds of traditions and
rituals. There must be over a million stories to tell, but may be not a lot of
ears! The Year to Hear will be those
ears for you!
Our aim:
- To applaud the different stories which exist around us, and respect them.
- To hear those which never find a way to be heard, either because they are too simple, or too complex!
- To archive lives through stories, starting 2013!
- To encourage the act of listening

StoryCorps and The Listening Project
Year to Hear is inspired from StoryCorps and The Listening
Project.
StoryCorps is an initiative in
the United States of America aiming “to provide Americans of all backgrounds
and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share and preserve the stories of
our lives.” Since their beginning in 2003, StoryCorps has collected and
archived more than 45000 interviews with nearly 90,000 participants. To listen
to the stories, or for any other details, visit www.storycorps.org
The Listening Project is a
partnership between BBC Radio 4, BBC local and national radio stations and the
British Library. The Listening Project encourages Britishers to “share an
intimate conversation with a close friend or relative to help to build a unique
picture of our lives today.” Some of the recordings are broadcasted across BBC
radio while also being archived by the British Library. To listen to the
stories, or for any other details, visit www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/the-listening-project
